11 Most Comfortable Extra-Deep Couches of 2024, According to Experts and Reviews
Simply put, a deep couch is just one with more surface area to sit upon. The seats are, well, big, which makes them ideal for napping or housing guests. Having the space to fully lay down flat makes a world of difference when you’re crashing on a couch—this much, I know to be true. But as much of an armchair expert as I may be (no pun intended, but that was a pretty good one!), there are actual professionals who live and breathe furniture, and they undoubtedly know better than me. I spoke to a few said experts, sifted through customer reviews, and consulted the Good Housekeeping Institute’s testing lab to bring you this list of the 11 best deep couches. Tell your houseguests they can thank me later, and good luck kicking them out.
The best part about this couch from Article is that all the cushions are uniform and thus reversible, which means you can regularly flip and rotate them to avoid sagging or pancaking.

What should I consider when buying a deep couch?
Dimensions. First things first, co-founder and COO of Homebody, Shuang Liang, recommends carefully measuring your space. “A deep couch can dominate a room, so it is important to note not only the width and depth but also the height,” she says.
Silhouette. Do you prefer a lofty couch or one that sits low to the ground? “Remember that seat depth and seat height are directly related and the deeper the sofa, the lower the seat height should be or comfort will be sacrificed,” explains Paulo Kos, vice president of design and development at The Citizenry. “Aesthetically, a low deep silhouette can lean more modern and relaxed while taller, shallower styles can be a bit more formal in look.”
Cushion type. You want a couch that offers both comfort and durability. “Look for high-density foam or down-filled cushions and durable upholstery fabrics,” Liang advises. “If you like to sink in while also feeling a little bit of bounce and support, look for cushions that combine down and several types of foam. The down provides softness while the foam provides longevity and support, working together to provide the best experience.”
