Do people just travel somewhere because it's cheaper?

Americans/Canadians- “It’s cheaper to fly into Europe than visit X place in my country”
Australians- “It’s cheaper to fly into Asia than visit NT in Australia”

I’ve seen myriads of similar posts all over. Yes, it’s true it’s cheaper for me to fly into Colombia for a month and eat like a queen than spend a week in Aspen. But I don’t want to go to Colombia because it’s cheaper! I want to visit Colorado and go hiking in the mountains and maybe rent a 4×4 or check out the high deserts or untouched wilderness! I like Colorado because of what it has and the price tag is the cost to check out something I like. Sure, Colombia has nature too, but it’s not Colorado and vice versa.

I’ve been discouraged from traveling in the US because going to Europe is cheaper and they have good wine and bread etc. Bro I hate alcohol and idc about bread at all. I also don’t care about history! I prefer a good taco truck and camp out in a cold desert or in the Sequoias but for some people this is scandalous because for the same price I could get a good hotel in Thailand instead of camping!
